Chapter 54: Finding problems through data

"Coach Chen, what do you think is Bingtian's problem?"

In the track and field at the Xinzhuang training base of the Magic City Track and Field Team, Yuan Guoqiang looked at the four men from Guangdong and Guangxi who were training together on the track. He recalled Su Bingtian's final three days ago and couldn't help but frown.

Together.

Today is May 19th, and there are still 4 days left before the start of the Diamond League Magic City Station.

After the 100-meter race on the 16th, Su Bingtian found him and said he hoped to study with coach Chen Wenzhong of the Guangxi team for a while.

If it were anyone else, and they heard that their athletes were going to study with coaches from other provinces, they would probably have scolded them and cleaned up the family.

Yuan Guoqiang was also a little unhappy, but he was not a narrow-minded person. He was also an athlete. After retiring, he had been coaching sprinters for so many years. He had been unable to make progress in domestic sprint events for more than ten years.

In the heart.

He knows that coaches in various provinces and cities are too self-contained. Once their athletes achieve good results, they will immediately stop communicating with other provinces and cities and strictly control the athletes' data.

This model of neither "bringing in" nor "going out" can only cultivate a group of athletes who are good at fighting among themselves. Once they go abroad to participate in Asian competitions and world competitions, they will not achieve very good results.

Good performance.

Now, the national 100-meter record has been broken, and it was completed by such a young boy.

After communicating with Su Bingtian, Yuan Guoqiang learned that it was Wei En who took the initiative to invite him, so why should he hesitate?

He simply did not return to Guangdong. The day after the Kunshan Grand Prix concluded, Yuan Guoqiang took Su Bingtian and Liang Jiahong and followed Chen Wenzhong to the Magic City.

After a day's rest, Wei En and Lao Yi also started training again. Yuan Guoqiang couldn't wait to ask Chen Wenzhong, who was much junior to him, for advice.

"This question... I can't explain clearly for a while." Chen Wenzhong smiled, "That kid Wei En always has a saying on his lips - data cannot lie.

In the past two days, we have worked together to get the data on him, Lao Yi and your apprentice Su Bingtian, do you want to take a look?"

"Data? What data is it?"

"Nothing, just use a high-speed camera to slow down frame by frame and calculate the data summary of each 10-meter segment of the athletes during the 100-meter race." Chen Wenzhong explained.

"10-meter split?" Yuan Guoqiang was a little surprised and speechless, because he couldn't believe that there was a coach in China who could do it to this level.

After the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, the IAAF released the most authoritative biomechanical analysis report, the most concerning of which was the men's 100-meter final event.

If I remember correctly, the IAAF used several high-speed cameras to analyze the 20-meter times of the eight world's top sprinters in the finals.

In addition, the IAAF also analyzed the time of each 10-meter segment through the LAVEG laser system. However, the accuracy of this laser version is not as accurate as that of high-speed cameras, resulting in athletes' data being too fast in the front and too slow in the back.

Segmented data is still a very new thing in China, because most provincial team coaches don't care about it and only know how to let the athletes practice hard using old and backward training methods.

And let those coaches who were born as athletes in the last century and have few drops of ink in their stomachs do segmented data measurement and calculation?

Just kidding, it's a miracle they can figure out high-speed cameras!

Yuan Guoqiang thought that only Zhang Peimeng's Tsinghua University-Beijing system could achieve precise segmented data measurement and calculation, but he did not expect that Chen Wenzhong also had this ability.

"Okay, that's troublesome, let me, an old man, learn too!" Yuan Guoqiang looked at Chen Wenzhong expectantly.

Although he is older, he knows how to ask questions without being ashamed, and he is willing to look down on his old face and ask for advice humbly.

"Don't take it seriously, let's communicate with each other!" Chen Wenzhong immediately stopped Wei En's training and asked them to follow him. After all, it was Wei En who taught him segmented data measurement and calculation.

Arriving under the awning next to the track and field, Chen Wenzhong opened his laptop, found the video of the 100-meter final three days ago, and clicked on a file that recorded the segment data tables of Wei En and Su Bingtian (picture attached)

).

This table is in English, but it is not difficult to understand, and the main content is 10 10-meter segment data from 0 to 100 meters.

The top is Wei En's, and the bottom is Su Bingtian's. Comparing the two, the difference is obvious and self-evident.

Using only the naked eye, he could indeed tell where Su Bingtian started to fall behind and how much he fell behind after reaching a certain position.

But after the data is combined with the video, an accurate difference can be obtained intuitively through simple numbers and pictures. This experience makes Yuan Guoqiang feel very novel.

Judging from the data, Su Bingtian's starting reaction is dominant.

Su Bingtian's starting reaction time was 0.157 seconds, while Wei En's starting reaction was 0.182 seconds. Su Bingtian narrowly won by 0.025 seconds.

But when he continued to look at the next data, Yuan Guoqiang found something was wrong.

In the first 10 meters, Su Bingtian took 1.89 seconds and Wei En took 1.90 seconds.

At first glance, Su Bingtian leads Wei En by 0.01 seconds in the first 10 meters, but don’t forget that this time includes starting reaction!

0.025-0.01, which means that Wei En’s pure running time for the first 10 meters directly closed the gap of 0.015 seconds!

0.015 seconds, how short is it?

Yuan Guoqiang estimated that Wei En was still relatively young and had not received that much gun response practice. If he could train hard for a while and stabilize the gun response within 0.16 seconds, Su Bingtian would be better in the first 10 meters.

There is no advantage at all.

Looking back, it is really "horrible".

From 10 to 20 meters, both men’s split times were 1.04 seconds, with Wei En tying Su Bingtian.

From 20 to 30 meters, Su Bingtian took 0.95 seconds and Wei En took 0.93 seconds. At a distance of 30 meters, Wei En had already gained an advantage of 0.02 seconds.

30 meters~40 meters......

Looking at it all the way, starting from 20 meters, Wei En's data for each 10-meter segment is better than Su Bingtian. Especially starting from 60 meters, Wei En's last four 10-meter segments are 0.03 faster than Su Bingtian.

Second.

"Why? Why does this happen?"

What Yuan Guoqiang doesn’t understand the most is that it has been rumored in the circle that Wei En and Lao Yi have mastered the [explosive start], but from the data point of view, Wei En’s first 30 meters data is only 0.02 seconds faster than Su Bingtian

That's all.

Even in the first 20 meters, Wei En only tied with Su Bingtian, and even fell slightly behind in the first 10 meters.

At this time, Wei En on the side spoke: "Brother Tian, your running method is too problematic. If you don't improve your running method, no matter how hard you strengthen your physical fitness, your hard power will not be able to break through 10.20 seconds."
