Chapter 33(2/2)
The short channel that releases water is like an erupting crater.
The deep ditch has disappeared, and the rushing water is level with the embankment.
The water level is still rising, but it is weak.
But the dam stood still.
Roger knew he had won.
He shouted wildly: "Let's show our cards! Stud!"
Someone came through the rain to find Roger. It was the Baron.
He said to the excited Roger: "Angelica is dying and she wants to see you."
The rain became lighter and lighter, and when Roger followed the baron into the village, the winter rain became heavier and heavier again.
Roger entered the house. He was covered in water and kept dripping.
He saw Angelica, curled up, her lower body covered in blood.
The blood soaked the blouse and was still flowing.
Roger stepped forward and held her hand.
He saw her trying hard to give him a smile, but it was actually worse than crying.
Her face was pale and gray, and her face was twisted with pain.
She shivered in pain and held his hand tightly.
She twitched.
Then she calmed down.
She is dead.
Roger looked at her for a long time until he thought he was looking at a stone statue.
So he stood up, left, and walked into the rain alone.
