Chapter 20 Radical Factors (Part 2)(1/2)

Joel walked between the tombs, with sarcophagus placed in long grids on the walls on both sides, and the air had a faint bitterness and cold smell. Joel guessed that it should be the herb used by the women of the restroom to drive out rats and spiders. The rat was the smallest scavenger. The black rat with a sarcoma all over the body was the number one enemy of the corpse. It is said that they were creatures brought from the abyss to the ground by the silent Black God. At first they did not look like this. After the Black God ordered them to clean up the remains of the battlefield, they were loyal to their desires and eventually became ugly creatures that stole the corpses.

In the past, Joel would have thought the tomb was very gloomy and terrifying, but after experiencing the dungeon deeper into the tomb, Joel felt that the tombs seemed so harmonious and safe. Thinking of this, Joel recalled the four black knights.

"Did these tombs be built by nobles?" The old man suddenly asked a question and interrupted Joel's thoughts.

"No, it was built by the church." Joel replied hoarsely.

"Oh? Can civilians rest in peace?" the old man asked curiously.

"That's right, but not all." Joel said, looking at the sarcophagus around him, "Most of them are nobles, but some of them should have corpses of civilians when they go out." Sure enough, they walked with the torches for a while and then appeared corpses without sarcophagus and only wrapped in shrouds.

"This is really strange," the old man shook his head and sighed. "When I was alive, most of the tombs were family tombs built by nobles themselves, and were guarded by family members themselves. Only when they were buried, would the church's restroom women and tomb guards be invited to hold the ceremony."

Joel did not answer, but he had never thought about these things. Since he was sensible, he knew that tombs, burials and other matters were handled by the church. He was also surprised by this when he first arrived in the north. Although the northerners were pious, they did not build tombs. Most northerners were unwilling to hand over their souls to the Black God, but to some other gods, such as the Lord of the Furnace and the Goddess of Winter. The former would welcome the souls of the warriors in the Hall of Heroes, and the Goddess of Winter would bring the souls of a woman to the snow clouds to avoid the cold. The influence of these two trinity master gods in the north is far greater than that of the silent Black God.

"It seems that the power of the church is much stronger now than before." The old man commented.

Joel agreed with the old man's words. The church is indeed too powerful now. The church is particularly close to the Royal Mecarid, because the St. Jon family that supported the church was a solid ally before the founding of the kingdom. The wealthy and devout St. Jon family not only provided funds for the cause of the Mecarid family, but also vigorously supported the development of the church. To this day, the church has the authority second only to the royal family.

However, these things happened many years after the old man died. Even if he told him, he would not know. It would only lead to the entanglement of this ghost with a strong desire for knowledge, so Joel simply remained silent.

Joel suddenly remembered the old nun Nanan's words. "Did your 'warning' stay in this tomb?" Joel asked.

"It's true," the old man looked around, "but it seems that he might have been damaged."

"What exactly will happen if the warning is violated?" Joel asked.

"The seal under the tower will be untied, and disaster will return to the world."

"What kind of disaster?" Joel asked suspiciously.

But the old man did not answer him, he just said lightly: "This matter is also a disaster as it is known to everyone, so I cursed all the insiders before I died. As long as the seal is still there, the curse will not disappear."

"You mean I'll be cursed, too?" Joel asked suspiciously.

"As long as you know the truth."

The old man's words made Joel suspicious, but it seemed that he would not reveal a word no matter what, so Joel did not ask any further. However, this ghost was a smart guy. Joel thought that he would definitely know that saying this would arouse my suspicion. Even so, he still chose this to tell me. Is what he said true?

With doubt and confusion, Joel followed the ghost to the end of the tomb, where there was also a black iron door. Kadiya said that the ancient tomb had been closed, so the door here should not be opened.

But when Joel reached out to make sure, he found that the door was easily opened. What's going on? Joel thought in confusion, but he immediately remembered the smell of herbs in the tomb. The restroom girl should have been here. What's going on? This should be an ancient tomb? Digging rats are scattered. Are they still interested in these bones?

Joel pushed open the door and saw a long staircase in front of him. From here you can reach the tomb where Hemi and the Sabre Girl are, which made Joel feel a little happy and finally able to leave this damn ghost place.

"Going out from here is the real world." The old man seemed to say with some emotion.

"It's still a tomb here." Joel said lightly, then he walked in with a torch first, and the old man's ghost continued to follow him. What should this old guy do? Joel thought that he was really as he said, and others could not see it? Joel also had doubts about this, but he couldn't drive the ghost away, so he had to let him go for the time being.

It seemed that he also noticed Joel's uneasiness, and the ghost smiled and said, "Not anyone can see ghosts, at least those with good health and devoutness cannot see them."

"What does it mean?" Joel asked.

"Accounties such as ghosts, ghosts or fairies are called 'virtual objects'. Void objects cannot directly affect reality. It can even be said that they do not exist directly in the present world. If you want to see them, contact or talk to them, you need to meet certain conditions to achieve it. As long as the conditions are not met, the 'virtual objects' are invisible. As I just said, people with healthy or pious bodies no longer meet this condition."

Joel was silent for a moment and did not continue talking.

The old man sighed and continued, "In layman's terms, you should have heard of this, 'People who don't believe in goblins cannot see goblins'."

Joel nodded slightly. "But I don't believe in the existence of ghosts." Joel said suspiciously.

"Because you meet the conditions, Ruiduin, you may be able to see it if you are 'Ruidin'. Legend has it that Ruiduin can still talk to the gods, can you?" the old man asked.

"Do you mean praying? The gods never respond to my prayers." Joel lied, but he still recalled his "illusion", which was an illusion... right?

The old man did not continue to ask, so they continued to walk on the dark stairs, the burning sound of torches and Joel's footsteps were the only sounds around.

"Speaking of this, you have never asked my name since the beginning." The old man suddenly spoke out.

"I'm not interested in the names of dead people." Joel said coldly.

"So do you mind if I ask your name?"

"mind."

"Why are you always so irritable?" the old man asked in confusion, "Your soul... is filled with anger."

"You have changed from a wizard to a monk again?" Joel said with a thorn.

Before the old man could answer anything, a harsh sound of the door opening suddenly came from ahead. Joel quickly stood firm, then put the torch in his hand back into his "backpack", and immediately disappeared in the darkness. Then he saw a lantern on the top of the stairs ahead dispelling the darkness next to the black door.

"Who is there?" asked an old and sharp voice. Joel knew the voice. "Is anyone?" asked the old nun Nanan again.

Joel did not make a sound, but looked at the top quietly. The blind old nun stood beside the iron door above, holding the door with one hand and holding the black iron lantern in the other. Although the old nun did not need light, the black lantern was not just lighting supplies, but also one of the props for the restroom women to look at rest. The restroom women need to hold the black lantern and walk around the tomb every day.

There was no sound coming from below, but the old nun still stood there for a while. Just as she was about to leave, Joel finally spoke out: "It's me."

Joel's hoarse and unpleasant voice echoed in the tunnel, and the old nun was obviously stunned. "Mr. Kang Ting?" asked the old nun.

Then Joel took a step and walked up the ladder. The old man's ghost looked at him, but followed him.

"Why are you here?" the old nun asked in confusion, "Here...oh, Black God, have you left the secret passage?"

"The Secret Path?" Joel smiled coldly and continued to walk upwards, "Are you talking about the Secret Path that contains a monster?"

"Monster? What are you talking about..."

"Where is Hemi?" Joel interrupted her without waiting for her to finish her words.

"She is in my room, and her body has recovered..." the old nun paused and asked suspiciously, "Mr. Kang Ting, is anyone by your side?"

"Take me to see her." Joel ignored her question and had walked into the edge of the fire from the lantern in her hand.

"Of course, of course, Mr. Kang Ting." The old nun nodded, then pushed open the iron door, "Please keep up, the structure of the tomb is a bit complicated, please don't get lost."

After saying that, the old nun turned around and walked towards the wall. Jon also walked out of the black door. He turned around and looked at the old man's ghost. The short old man was silent with his hands on his back.

"She can feel you?" Joel asked in a low voice.

"Are you talking to me?" the old nun stopped and asked, but Joel did not answer her.

The old man did not answer, but nodded to Joel. Seeing that he had not spoken, Joel did not ask him anything more. The old nun is a servant of the Black God and a restroom girl. Generally, they deal with the dead for a long time and with the living, and it is no wonder that they can feel ghosts.

"Mr. Contin," said the old nun who was walking in front, "I'm really sorry, I don't know what...monster is there in that tunnel? I swear, I've never been to that tunnel."

"You said you don't know what monster?" Joel expressed doubts about this. If according to what Kadiya said, the flooded tomb under the church is the place where the monsters hide. The restroom girl who lives in the catacombs all year round would not have not noticed its existence. After meeting the monster in that secret passage, Joel became more sure that the monster was hiding in the tomb.

"Oh, the black god is above," the old nun shook his head slightly, and his voice hesitated, "Are you talking about the monster who committed murder in the city?"

Joel did not answer, she was asking knowingly, he thought.

"When it comes to this, Mr. Kang Ting, I think I must warn you that you are very dangerous now!" The old nun suddenly said, which surprised Joel.

"Danger?" he asked in confusion.

"The elder monk Marvel of the church was killed. The guards in the city thought you were the murderer and were arresting you all over the city." The old nun's words made Joel stunned.

"Why me?" Joel asked suspiciously.

"Because you attacked Monk Huine when you entered the church square, he reported this to the guards. They were all looking for a man with bandages on his face. It was you, right?" asked the old nun. Seeing that Joel did not answer, she asked in a questioning tone, "Then Mr. Contin, are you the murderer who killed Old Marvel?"

"I have never killed any monks." Joel said tiredly. Damn, now I am wanted? I didn't expect to hear such news as soon as I came back.

"I want to believe you, sir, but what I say is useless, so please be careful about everything." said the old nun.

Joel didn't say anything about it, he was silent for a moment before continuing to ask, "Do you know what time it is outside?"

"Outside?" the old nun thought for a while, "It should be evening?"

While they were talking, they had already arrived at the door of the old nun's residence, which was a little distance from the place where the dead were placed, and a simple wooden door was tightly closed.

"Mr. Kang Ting, are we here?" asked the old nun.

But Joel did not answer her. He felt something was wrong. "Nun, please borrow a lantern for a while." Joel reached out and took the black lantern from the nun's hand, then squatted down and found footprints on the ground. Joel did not find out because he saw these footprints, but when he stepped on it, he felt something was wrong. He reached out and touched the footprints, and felt the cold water marks through the bandage wrapped around his hand.

The monster had been here. Joel felt a sudden chill all over his body, as if he had returned to the secret passage, and the cold river water poured into his chest.

Joel hurriedly walked towards the door of the old nun's residence, then reached out and touched the door knocker. There was no water mark on the door knocker, but before he could breathe a sigh of relief, he found that the water mark was on the door. Joel hurriedly pushed the door, and the door was locked.

"Who is there?" A timid voice came from the door.

"Hermi?! It's me!" Joel shouted anxiously, "Are you okay?"

"Mr. Kang Ting?" The girl inside the door seemed surprised, "Please wait!"

The old nun also walked over with the wall. The old man's ghost stood aside from a distance without approaching. Joel just glanced at him and didn't care about him. After a while, the sound of the door bolt being lifted came from the door. Joel carefully pushed open the door, and Hemi's face also appeared in the fire of the lantern in his hand.

"Mr. Contin?" Hermi called softly.

"I'm here." Joel breathed a sigh of relief, it seemed that she was not injured.

"Mr. Kang Ting? What happened?" the old nun asked in confusion.

"I'm going to take Hemi away from here." Joel said while looking at the ghost of the old man on the side. The old nun and Hemi were both stunned.

The old man seemed to understand something, and he walked over, but because it was a ghost, he did not make any sound. When he saw Hemi, he showed a look as if he understood something.

"Why suddenly...? No, no! She can't leave here!" the old nun said sternly, "Prophecy! If she leaves, prophecy will..."

"I don't care about prophecy," Joel said coldly in a husky and ugly voice. "Now there is a monster wandering here, and I can't leave Hermi here."

"Monster?" The old nun was stunned again, "Mr. Kang Ting, there will be nothing here..."

"You are still alive." A cold, stiff and weird voice came from the darkness, and the temperature of the air seemed to have been reduced a little because of this sound.
