Chapter 7 The Halloween Attack
October is coming, and a wet cold air permeates the ground and penetrates into the castle. The bullet-sized raindrops hit the castle windows and do not stop for several days. The lake water rises, and there is a mud flow in the flower bed. In the Ravenclaw's public lounge, Silver occupied a sofa alone, listening to the regular crackling sound of the wood blocks in the stove.
"Ah, it's so boring." Silver yawned.
"Jack, if you are so bored, you can help me see my deformation homework. Professor McGonagall has been leaving behind recently, and the homework has become more and more difficult." Michael Corner said, biting his pen.
"Michael, you can't always rely on other people's help to complete your homework. Use your intelligence and talent. You are a student of Ravenclaw."
"You're so embarrassed to say that, which homework did you not copy Hermione? Just talk about the last magic history homework and the thesis of Fairy War, you asked Hermione to help you write it!" Michael Corner became more and more angry. The quill in his hand accidentally shook, and a large ink ball appeared on the parchment. "Oh, hell, Professor McGonagall hates untidy homework, and now he has to rewritten it again."
"Michael, you need to be calm. This is my fortune, which others cannot envy. Jealousy is original sin, Michael." Silver looked serious and looked like he looked serious.
"What are you talking about? It's so lively."
The person who spoke was Qiu Zhang, a lively and lovely Chinese girl. She is a third-year student of Ravenclaw. She is also the only ball seeker of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team.
"We're talking about some irrelevant gossip. Qiu, how is Quidditch training recently?" Silver sat up and gave Qiu Zhang a little sofa. Qiu Zhang sat down without hesitation. "Don't mention, the weather is so bad. We tried to go out for training this Thursday, but the storm is too heavy. Now only the Gryffindor Quidditch team is still training. When I came back, I saw them training on the court. It was so desperate."
Silver laughed: "That's because you played Gryffindor so badly last year. If nothing unexpected happened, Gryffindor had a lot of hope for winning the championship last year. As a result, for well-known reasons, Gryffindor's goalkeepers were absent, and Gryffindor lost a crushing defeat. They must be holding their anger in their hearts."
Qiu Zhang laughed: "No wonder they worked so hard, but it is indeed a pity that they failed to fight against the Gryffindor team's ball seekers last year."
"I'll meet one day," said Silver. "Is there anything wrong with me today? Qiu?"
"I want to find you to join the Ravenclaw Quidditch team." Qiu Zhang said: "According to Mrs. Huo Qi, you are one of the best students. Even Harry Potter may not be much better than you."
Silver shook his hand: "If it were a year ago, I might have agreed. But now I know that the training of Quidditch players is very hard - and it will take up too much of my spare time. In fact, Qiu, I advise you not to continue being a ball seeker. You are a girl, and you are a key player. It is so risky to be a ball seeker. The opponent's batsman and ball seeker will give you small moves from time to time, which is easy to get hurt."
Qiu Zhang was so amused and laughed: "Roger Davis asked me to persuade you to join the Quidditch team. If you don't want to join, just let me not continue to be a ball seeker. Roger Davis would be furious when he heard what he said."
Qiu Zhang stood up and prepared to leave: "If you change your mind, you can come to me at any time." Qiu Zhang blinked playfully at Silver: "Thank you for your suggestions, I will consider it."
"Hey, Jack, your hand is amazing." Terry Butt walked from behind and patted Silver on the shoulder. "I thought it was already amazing that you had done Sister Pettier and Hermione Granger, but I didn't expect that you had not reached your limit yet - you actually wanted to get our Quidditch Flower. You just refused to join the Quidditch team. Did you teach us the retreat-to-advance tactics? It's so amazing." Terry Butt looked "I understand everything."
"Don't gossip anymore, I don't mean that." Silver found that Michael was also involved and had to interrupt them. "Instead of talking about these things, it's better to talk about this Halloween celebration - Hagrid planted a lot of giant pumpkins to be carved into lanterns on Halloween. Dumbledore also booked a skeleton dance troupe to cheer everyone up. This year's Halloween is more lively than last year."
"Is that? Then this year's Halloween can be fun. Terry, you said we might as well get some..."
Seeing the two of them indulging in discussing Halloween celebrations, Silver finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Trouble kid." Silver forgot that he was also a kid himself at this moment.

Halloween is here, and the auditorium is decorated with live bats as usual. The huge pumpkins of the seagrid are carved into lanterns, so big that they can accommodate three people sitting inside. It seems that everyone has heard of Dumbledore's invitation to a skeleton dance troupe to fight. Everyone is talking about it. In the decorative auditorium, the shining candlelight reflects the excited smiles of the students.
"This Halloween specialty pumpkin pie really tastes good," Silver said to Padma.
For an hour, Silver, who had enough food and drink, could do nothing. But the celebration had just begun - people were watching the funny performance of the Skeleton Dance Group with great interest. Silver noticed Hermione was gesturing at him and signaled him to pass.
Silver and Hermione left the auditorium together.
"Hermione, is there anything? The celebration has just begun."
"Jack, I noticed that Harry and Ron had left mysteriously before the Halloween dinner. I saw that they hadn't come back for so long, and I was worried that they would do something extraordinary. Gryffindor couldn't stand them losing points like this."
"So you want to find me and you to find them? No problem, just walk to eliminate food." Silver noticed that Hermione was a little insincere when she spoke and was evasive. Silver realized that it was probably the girl who wanted to find a chance to be alone with him. She was as clever as Silver would naturally not expose such tricks.
On the third floor of the castle, Hermione suddenly gasped and pointed at the bottom of the corridor.
"look!"
Silver saw something shining on the wall in front of them. And there were two people standing on the other side of the wall.
"It's Harry and Ron!" said Hermione.
They walked slowly, squinted their eyes and identified carefully in the darkness. Between the two windows, on the wall one foot high above the ground, there were some writings, and the emblem light shone under the reflection of the burning torches.
The secret room was opened.
Be alert if you are enemies of the heirs.
"Harry, why are you and Ron here? What's going on here?" Hermione said.
Harry was obviously stunned. Ron said, "We don't know, we went to the ghost's death party, and we couldn't stand it later. Harry said that he heard something, so we chased him all the way here. That's it."
Ron pointed to a black shadow hanging there with his hand.
It was Mrs. Loris, the cat who janitor, with its tail hanging on the torch holder, its body stiff as a wooden board, its eyes wide open, and its stare straight. The three stood motionless for several seconds, and then Ron said, "Let's get out of here quickly." "Should you try to rescue-" Harry said not very fluently. "Listen to me," Ron said, "I don't want to be discovered here."
However, it was too late. A low noise, like the thunder in the distance, told them that the banquet had just ended. From both ends of the corridor where they were, the sound of hundreds of feet climbing the stairs, and the people happily chatting and laughing loudly after having enough tea and meals. Then, the students pushed and squeezed into the aisle from both ends.
When the people in front saw the cat hanging upside down, the chirping sound suddenly disappeared. The students suddenly became quiet and rushed forward to see this terrible scene.
"Watch those who are enemies with the heirs! The next one is you, Mud Breed!"
It was Draco Malfoy. He had already squeezed into the front of the crowd, his cold eyes were alive, and his usually bloodless face turned red. He looked at the still and stiff cat hanging there, and a grinned smile appeared on his face.
Silver narrowed his eyes: "Malfoy, I remember I warned you last time-"
"What's going on here? What's going on?"
Felch was undoubtedly attracted by Malfoy's shouts, and he squeezed through the crowd with his shoulders. Then he saw Mrs. Loris, who stumbled back a few steps and grabbed his face with his hands in horror.
"My cat! My cat! What's wrong with Mrs. Loris?" he screamed.
At this moment, his protruding eyes saw Harry.
"You!" he screamed, "You! You killed my cat! You killed it! I want to kill you! I want-" "Felch!"
Dumbledore arrived at the scene, followed by many other teachers. In the blink of an eye, he walked past Harry, Ron, Hermione and Silver, and untied Mrs. Loris from the torch stand.
"Come with me, Felch," he said to Felch, "and you, Mr. Silver, Mr. Porter, Mr. Weasley, Miss Granger."
Lockhart hurriedly walked up to-
"My office is closest to here, the principal—just upstairs—you can—''" "Thank you, Gidro," Dumbledore said.
The silent crowd separated to both sides and let them pass. Lockhart was very excited, looking very proud, hurriedly following Dumbledore. Professor McGonagall and Snape also followed.
Dumbledore placed Mrs. Loris on the smooth table and began to check it carefully. Dumbledore's long hooked nose almost touched the hair on Mrs. Loris's body. He looked at it carefully through the half-moon glasses, and his slender fingers poked it gently and poked it there. Professor McGonagall bent over, and his face almost touched the cat, and he looked at it carefully with his eyes squinted. Snape stood behind them, half of his body hidden in the shadow, looking gloomy. The expression on his face was very strange: it seemed as if he was trying hard to restrain himself from laughing. Lohart wandered around them, constantly giving advice.
"It must be a spell that killed it - it's probably a spell of transformation and torture. I have seen others use this spell many times. I'm so sorry I was not present at the time. I happened to know the method of resolving the spell, which could have saved it..."
Lockhart's words were interrupted by Felch's tears of tears. Felch sat on a chair at the table, covering his face with his hands, not daring to look at Mrs. Loris.
At this time, Dumbledore whispered some strange words and knocked Mrs. Loris with his wand, but there was no response: Mrs. Loris lay there stiffly, like a newly prepared specimen.
"I remember something very similar happened in Ouagadougou," said Lohart. "A series of attacks are recorded in detail in my autobiography. At that time, I provided various amulets to the people, and solved the problem in one go..."
As he spoke, the photos of Lockhart on the wall nodded and agreed. One of them forgot to take off his hair net.
Finally, Dumbledore stood up.
"It's not dead, Felch," he said softly.
Lockhart was counting how many murders he had prevented, and suddenly stopped. "Not dead?" Felch said with a sob, looking at Mrs. Loris through the cracks of her fingers, "Then why is it all--its stiff, as if it was frozen?"
"It's petrified," said Dumbledore ("Ah! I think so too!", Lockhart said), "but what happened is, I don't know what happened..." "Ask him!" Felch screamed, turning his mottled, tear-stained face to Harry. "It's impossible for a second-year student to do this," Dumbledore said firmly, "It requires the highest deep black magic—"
"It was him who did it!" Felch said with spitting, his fat and sagging face turned purple. "You saw the words he wrote on the wall! He found-in my office-he knew I was a-I was a-" Felch's face twitched terriblely. "He knew I was a squin!"
"I didn't touch Mrs. Loris at all!" Harry shouted, uneasy to realize that everyone was looking at him, including all the Lohart on the wall. "I don't even know what the squib means."
"Nonsense!" Felch roared, "he saw my correspondence letter that quickly chanted the mantra!'' "Please allow me to say, Principal. Maybe, Potter and his friends shouldn't have appeared in that place at that time," Snape said, his lips twisting and sneering as if he was deeply suspicious of it, "but we did encounter a series of doubts. Why did they go to the corridor above? Why didn't they attend the Halloween party?"
"Professor, Hermione and I attended the Halloween dinner. Later, Hermione said she was a little bored and wanted to go out for a walk. I came out with Hermione. When I got here, I found Harry and Ron standing in front of the wall - this is what Hermione and I saw." Silver said calmly.
"So, Mr. Silver and Miss Granger are not suspected of committing crimes. What about Porter and Mr. Weasley?" Snape smiled maliciously.
Harry and Ron scrambled to explain that they were going to the death party. "…hundreds of ghosts came, and they could prove that we were there-"
"But after that, why not come to the party?" Snape said, his dark eyes shining in the candlelight. "Why go to the corridor above?"
Because we are tired, we want to go to bed early,” Harry said.
"Not having supper?" Snape said, a smug smile flashing across his thin face. "I think the food provided by the ghost at the party is probably not very suitable for living people."
"We're not hungry," Ron said loudly, while his stomach rumbling.
Snape's ugly smile became more obvious.
"My opinion is, Principal, Porter is not telling the truth completely," he said. "We should probably cancel some of his privileges until he tells us the whole thing. I personally think it's better to let him leave the Gryffindor Quidditch team and wait until the attitude is honest."
"To be honest, Severus," Professor McGonagall snapped, "I don't see any reason not to let the kid play. The cat wasn't hit in the head by a broom. And there's no evidence that Porter did anything wrong."
"Several professors, you don't have to argue at all." Silver said. "In my opinion, this matter really has nothing to do with Harry Potter."
Snape showed a twisted smile: "Does Mr. Silver have any insight?"
"There is no good opinion, I just want to express my personal opinion." Silver walked to the cat. "It is obvious that this cat was hit by a very powerful petrification spell. Professor Dumbledore just used several special effects to solve the spells but had no effect at all. We all know that although the wizards mastered several spells that could achieve petrification effects, no matter which one, they could not have such a strong effect."
"Maybe the caster is too powerful-" Lockhart interrupted.
"That's even more unrelated to Harry Potter. Harry Potter is just a second-year student. Not to mention that he can use such a powerful petrification spell, whether he can master petrification spells is a question."
"Summary Silver." Dumbledore nodded.
"I suspect that this cat was not attacked by people. It should be caused by some powerful magical creature. Only the petrification talent of powerful magical creatures can have such an effect."
"So Mr. Silver, what kind of magic creature would you guess?" Professor McGonagall asked.
"It's hard to say that the cat can be turned into such a magical creature. It's just legendary monsters like Medusa and the Snake Monster, but this doesn't make sense. How could Hogwarts have such dangerous monsters?" Silver said.
Dumbledore applauded: "The analysis is very good, Mr. Silver. Ravenclaw College should add twenty points to this. Mr. Porter has gotten rid of the suspicion because of your wonderful analysis."
"My cat is petrified!" Felch screamed, his eyes protruding out. "I hope to see someone get some punishment!" "We can cure it, Felch." Dumbledore said patiently, "Mrs. Sprout recently got some mandelagrass. Once they grow up and mature, I have a medicine to bring Mrs. Loris back to life." "I will prepare it," Lohart interrupted, "I have prepared it for a hundred times, and I can prepare the mandelagra resurrection potion while dreaming—" "Please forgive me," Snape said coldly, "I think I am the potion class teacher in this school." An embarrassing silence.
"Principal, do you also think that the monster attacked this cat?" Lohat asked.
"It should be so, but as Mr. Silver said, how could that legendary monster appear in Hogwarts."
