Chapter 12 Ominous
"This is the Godric Valley? Didn't it mean that it is also a place for wizards? Why is there nothing? Let me look at the map again, we won't have gone wrong, right?" Ron said, "Maybe the wrong place name was pronounced when I used the phantom to show it?"
"We're not wrong, Ron. This was a place of wizards a long time ago, but it's not now," said Harry. "According to the Modern Wizards, all the wizards living here have moved away or died."
"No wonder Dad never brought me here before," Ron said.
In front of them was a small square, with a war monument-shaped building in the center of the square, with several shops, a post office, a bar, and a small chapel. The opposite of the stained glass square was radiating jewel-like glory.
The Muggle villagers crossed in front of them, briefly illuminated by street lights. A small chapel was sitting alone as the bar doors opened and closed.
"I'm sure we're right now, I feel it." Ron said, looking at the church, "they... they'll be there, are you? Your mom and dad? I can see the cemetery behind."
Harry felt a trembling. It was not only excitement, but also fear. Now that the distance is so close, he doesn't know whether he wants to see it or not.
"Harry, look!"
Ron pointed to the monument. It changed, no longer an obelisk with names, but a statue of three people: a man with messy hair and glasses, a woman with long hair and beautiful appearance, and a baby boy sitting in her mother's arms. Snowflakes fell on the top of the three of them, like soft white velvet hats.
Harry walked closer and stared at his parents' face. He never thought there would be a sculpture...how strange it was that he saw himself in the stone carving, a happy baby with no scars on his head...
"Let's go." After seeing it, Harry said. The two continued to walk towards the church. When crossing the street, he looked back and the statue turned into a Muggle's war monument.
As he approached the church, Harry's voice was tight, and he had never been so nervous.
The entrance to the church was a narrow door. Harry pushed it open as lightly as possible, and the two got in.
Behind the church, rows of tombstones stood, and Harry held his wand tightly in his pocket and walked towards the nearest tombstone.
"Look at this, the surname is Aibo. Maybe he is Hannah's lost relative!"
"Sound down." Harry said, "It's not safe here."
The two continued to walk deep into the cemetery. They bent down and looked carefully at the inscriptions on the ancient tombstones, and occasionally looked into the darkness around them, confirming that there were no one else.
"Harry, come here!"
Ron was outside the two rows of tombstones, and Harry had to go back with his heart pounding and hitting his chest.
"Yes or no--"
"No, but look!"
He pointed to the black stele. Harry bent down and saw on the mottled granite. Below the date of birth and death was his daughter Arianna. There was another motto:
Where is the treasure? Where is the heart
", Harry, so Dumbledore lived here too!"
"I don't know." Harry murmured, and it turned out that he and Dumbledore had deep roots buried in the cemetery. Dumbledore should have told him this. But he never thought of pointing out the relationship. They could have visited this place together, and Harry imagined what kind of friendship would be like to come here with Dumbledore. How much meaning would it have to him. However, for Dumbledore, their relatives lying on the same cemetery seemed just an unimportant coincidence, and perhaps nothing to do with what he wanted Harry to do.
Harry read the words on the tombstone again. Where is the treasure and where is the heart. But he didn't understand what this sentence means.
"Are you sure he never mentioned it?" Ron asked.
"No," Harry said briefly, "Let's look for it." He turned and walked away, hoping that he hadn't seen the stone tablet. He didn't know why Dumbledore was hiding these things.
From time to time, the two recognized a surname like Abbot, who had seen at Hogwarts. Sometimes generations of the same wizard family were listed on this tombstone. Harry saw from the age that some of these families were dead and some descendants left the Godrick Valley. He walked further and further in the cemetery, and every time he approached a tombstone, he felt a sense of excitement of fear and expectation.
The darkness and silence seemed to have suddenly deepened a lot. Harry looked around worriedly, thinking of the dementor. He was a little unsure whether he should release the guardian to give him courage, but he was afraid of being laughed at by Ron.
"Harry, here... here."
Harry heard from his tone that this time it was his parents'. He walked towards him and felt something pressing heavily on his chest, like he felt after Dumbledore's death, a kind of grief that really suppressed his heart and lungs.
The tombstone is only two rows separated from Candela and Ariana's. Like Dumbledore's tomb, it is white marble, and the words are easier to read because it seems to shine in the darkness. Harry can see the inscriptions on it without kneeling down or even walking very close.
Died on October 31, 1981, on October 31, 1981
The last enemy to be destroyed is death
Harry read these words slowly, as if he had only one chance to understand their meaning. He read out the last line.
"'The last enemy to be destroyed is death'..." A terrible thought suddenly poured into his mind, accompanied by a panic, "Isn't this Voldemort's idea? How could it be here?"
Ron did not notice the reason for Harry's mood change. He just felt that his friend was out of control because he saw the tombstone of his biological parents who had never been masked.
"Harry, don't be sad. Your parents defeated that devil with their lives. They are very - very great."
But they had no life, Harry thought: They were no longer there. The empty words could not hide this reality. The rotten corpse of his parents was lying under the stone, cold and unconscious.
"What are you doing here?" A female voice came from behind them.
Harry and Ron shivered, pinched their wands and turned quickly - but they saw no one, they looked around and found nothing!
"Ha-Harry." Ron's voice trembled, "Did you hear it just now?"
"I heard it." Harry was also a little nervous.
"Aunt Muriel often scared me when I was a child and said that strange things often happened in the wizard's cemetery, and those who encountered these unknown people would soon die of death." Ron sounded almost crying.
"Like that ominous big black dog?"
"Even worse, Harry, seeing the big black dog is just the ominous death, and even more terrifying."
"You haven't told me yet, what are you doing here?" The voice came from behind them again.
This time, Ron screamed strangely, pulled Harry and ran away. (To be continued, please search for Astronomy, the novel is better, updated and faster!
