Chapter 6 IQ Tests

Just as Alex was concentrating on sorting out his memories, his abnormal behavior attracted the attention of others. Angel, especially, she was always worried about Alex. When she found Alex sitting from time to time and not moving, she began to want to see the doctor.

As early as shortly after Alex was born, they found that Alex was not as annoyed as other children, and did not cry or make trouble. When needed, they knew how to actively make sounds to attract adult attention.

When he could say and leave, the signs of "sensibility" became more and more obvious. This was because Alex's negligence, even the greatest actor could not play the role of an ignorant child for the rest of his life. He seemed so alternative and so abnormal.

Angel also discovered that Alex started reading various books when he was two years old and would take the initiative to teach other children to learn. At first she told Bart, but Bart didn't care much. He believed that this was just an accident.

When Alex popped up the "Carmen" variation in public, and then became calm because of his ability to study, the Carpenters' concerns reached a peak. They planned to find someone to see what was going on in the child.

Bart called his parents' friend, who was a university professor. Under the introduction of this professor, Bart found an expert who specializes in IQ. It is said that they have a lot of research on such children who are different from ordinary people. They can ask them to test Alex to see if it is an IQ problem.

"Don't worry!" the professor comforted Bart, saying, "From what you described, I'm sure to tell you that Alex's IQ is definitely higher than other children!"

Soon, those people contacted Bart, and they offered to come over and do some preliminary tests.

"Hi! Hello Alex!" Two white men in suits and ties walked into the room and said to him. One of them was wearing a pair of black-framed glasses, while the other did not.

Alex widened his eyes and looked at them and said, "Hello! Is there anything wrong?"

The Carpenters and his wife stood beside the two of them, and Bart quickly asked them to sit down and make two cups of coffee.

Angel explained to Alex: "Child, we asked them to check your body."

Check it? You can't find something!

Alex felt a little uneasy, but he quickly felt relieved because the other party was just talking to him casually. Soon, he figured out that they were here to test their IQ.

At the beginning, Alex was a little unwilling to let go. He was hesitating about how to answer the other person's questions. A minute or two later, he suddenly thought that this was an opportunity. As long as the Carpenters mistakenly thought that his IQ was very high, all abnormal behaviors could be explained. He did not need to cover up too much, especially in terms of behavioral language, he acted like an adult. He had thought of pretending to be a child, but this was difficult to change.

Alex thought to himself: "Well, how high is the IQ to get? Is 180 enough? This is just as good as that of Kinda Ichi, at least higher than Conan, it should be enough."

Just as he was struggling with how high his IQ was, the visitor had already introduced himself.

Both of them were professors from the University of Chicago, the one with black-framed glasses was a professor of mathematics, and the one without glasses was a professor of biology. After hearing the description of the Carpenters, they initially judged that Alex had a high IQ, so they came to take a look with great interest.

The hesitant Alex made them mistakenly think that this was the so-called psychological defense line, so there was no excessive force. When everyone got familiar with it, the topic became more and more profound. At this time, Alex had already made up his mind and cooperated with them to test their IQ.

The two professors were soon surprised. They saw that Alex's thinking was very jumping and could still keep up with certain topics. His performance was like an adult, discussing with them in a decent manner. Regardless of whether the view was correct or not, it made them feel a little excited. After chatting for more than ten minutes, they had already made a conclusion in their hearts.

The two looked at each other and nodded silently. Yes, they were sure Alex was a child with a high IQ.

Of course, when Alex talked to them, he carefully changed his tone and did not look old-fashioned.

"I heard that your memory is very good. Can you perform for us?" The mathematics professor said to Alex with a smile.

Alex tilted his head and thought for a while, and said in a muffled voice: "Okay! How do you want to perform?"

The biology professor immediately took out a book from his bag, which was a thick dictionary. He said, "Do you know how to read these words?"

Alex nodded, and he took the book.

"Can you take a quick look, just take a look, I will test you later!" he continued.

Alex then flipped through it casually. In fact, he didn't have to see what these words meant. His complete memory ability was much stronger than image memory. He could remember it completely just by reading it and listening it.

The two saw Alex flipping quickly, almost flipping over, and almost never stopped to think. A hint of surprise flashed through their eyes. They had never seen anyone reading like this. Even people with super-sense memory did not remember them as quickly as they read.

"Has it been wrong?" they thought to themselves.

After finally finishing the dictionary, Alex handed it back: "I've read it all, you can take the exam!"

"You've finished reading all?" The math professor could hardly believe his ears, and he asked quickly: "Did you remember them all?"

"Yes! Remember, I've written their images into my mind." Alex said very coolly.

Another professor asked a question in a disbelief tone: "Page 145, what letter is the second line?"

Alex replied: "The letters on the left are XXX, and the letters on the right are XXX. Their explanations are..."

The mathematics professor immediately turned to that page and compared what Alex said, he found that it was not bad at all.

They tested it several times again, and Alex said it. At this time, they felt that they were so shocked that they were petrified and didn't know what to say.

On the contrary, the Carpenters were not surprised. They had long known that Alex had a very good memory and had become accustomed to it. What they were worried about was Alex's abnormal behavior, and they were helpless about Alex's situation.

The mathematics professor also tested Alex's mathematical calculation ability. This kind of problem is just a little bit for Chinese people who have received nine years of compulsory education. Alex once again made him feel that his IQ was not enough.

"Mr. Carpenter, Mrs. Carpenter, can you talk outside?"

After they left the door, Angel immediately asked, "Professor, there is no problem with Alex!"

The math professor shook his head and said, "Your son's thinking is normal, we didn't find any problems with him. But..."

These words made the Carpenters nervous, and they quickly asked, "But what?"

"His thinking and knowledge are almost the same as adults, which means that his IQ is probably the highest of all we have ever seen!"

"IQ?"

The Carpenters didn't understand why this IQ would affect Alex's behavior. They knew that if the IQ was low, they would indeed become a little stupid. However, Alex's IQ was so high, why sometimes she would sit motionless like a fool.

In this era, when IQ tests were emerging, many schools were conducting this IQ test. People were superstitious about this test and believed that this way they could tell whether a child would have a successful future in the future.

"If Alex has no problem with his IQ, why does he still look like that?"

The Carpenters described some abnormal situations of Alex to find out the real problem.

"No! Your understanding of IQ is not complete enough. People with high IQ will perform slightly differently from normal people."

The two professors quickly explained to them what IQ is. What kind of performance will be like for high IQ and low IQ. The good news is that Alex's IQ is definitely not low, and the bad news is that they don't know how high his IQ is.

"We hope to be able to test it again and have a complete test. This way you can know how high your son's IQ is."

Angel's idea was very simple, as long as Alex was not sick, she didn't care about how high the IQ was. Bart thought so at first, and he didn't want his son to test his IQ.

The two professors finally met a child who seemed to be genius, but they would not let him go so easily.

"This test will give you some compensation," said one of the professors.

When Bart heard this, he immediately became excited: "What compensation?"

"Uh, $100!"

$100 is equivalent to Bart's monthly salary, and he is considering whether he wants to agree to the other party. Unexpectedly, Angel refused: "We don't need your $100! Please go back!"

"What about $300? No, we can give you up to $500!" The math professor was about to fail in negotiations, so he quickly increased the price.

Another professor was shocked by his heroic spirit. He knew that $500 was already a lot of money, and the school would not reimburse the fee. However, he also knew that his colleagues were fascinated by IQ research and might be able to take a portion of the research funds to the Carpenters.

$500! This money is almost enough to buy a new car! This was a lot of money at that time. Under the temptation of the money of the two professors, Bart surrendered first, and he turned around and continued to persuade his wife.
