Chapter 318: Gao Zi's Debate (5)(2/2)
Everyone is equal. When Confucian scholars refute Mohism, a rebuttal theory that is easy to propose is: If people are equal, then low-level nobles want to be high-level nobles, scholars want to be doctors, doctors want to be ministers, and superiors want to replace monarchs, isn’t that a world of chaos?
The root of this rebuttal is that they believe that hierarchy cannot exist, and consider a paradox: everyone is equal under hierarchy.
The Mohist school, which has been revised, has to do "hypocritical" equality, and has not yet reached the point of pursuing equality on the true "material basis", which makes the Mohist school very ruthless.
An important factor in Confucian opposing Mohist equality is the paradox of "equality for everyone under the hierarchy".
If you think that everyone is equal, it means that the intention of committing chaos in the world will fill the world, which will lead to the idea of "Can the emperor sit, but I can't sit?" that will lead to chaos in the world.
This issue may have been a question twenty years ago. At this time, Gaozi snorted and said to this issue: "Equality means there is no hierarchy of etiquette and law; without hierarchy, there is no distinction between emperors, princes, ministers, officials, scholars, farmers, and slaves, and everyone is equal."
"Isn't it because the doctors are superior to the serfs? If they own the land? If they divide their land and belong to the people of the world and deprive them of the root of being 'swallows', then how could this happen?"
"The doctors have no fiefdom, no military power, and no law enforcement and administrative power of one party, why do they want to cause trouble?"
"What are they doing in trouble? What is the reason for the cause of the chaos and fighting among doctors now?"
"Isn't it just for the sake of land, for fiefdom, to be able to control more farmers, and to obtain more fiefdoms, and to be a bigger 'swallow'?"
"Under the morality of our Mohist family, everyone in the world is equal, and does not have different rights because of the gap in hierarchy and identity, different food, different rituals and music, and different clothes, it means that there are no doctors, scholars, emperors, and princes in the world, and there are only one person who works hard because of their own human needs."
"If you have the will to benefit the world, you will rely on the choice of valuing the wise. If you really have the will to be political and talented, why not choose the emperor to be the emperor and govern the world?"
"If you have the intention to get rich, you will rely on the burial of the burial of the burial of the land, operate industry and commerce, and obtain wealth."
“Is this wrong?”
The Confucian scholar also sneered: "What you said makes sense, but are we Confucians unreasonable?"
"If every superior has a kind heart, restrain oneself and return to courtesy, the big ones do not want to embezzle the small ones, and the small ones do not want to rebel against the big ones, then there will be no war in the world."
"There is no war in the world, so there is no need to impose taxes that violate etiquette and law."
"If you do not collect taxes that violate etiquette, you can make the people live in the fiefdom, so that the lords will love their people, and the people will use public land instead of taxes and the well-field system, so that the world can be stable."
"So I say, you, the Mo family is the greatest sinner, and you make everyone seek profit, so that the people want more."
"The princes who have the ambition to annex the world are the second-class crimes."
"A doctor who has the intention of being unjust is to wait for another crime."
"There is the final sin of a farmer who cultivates land and a craftsman who wants more wealth."
"I just ask you, if everyone can keep etiquette and restrain themselves and return etiquette, can the world be stable, right?"
"Don't say that our knowledge is wrong, because you can't prove that everyone in the world cannot keep polite. Moreover, when the civil and military rule has proved that everyone in the world can keep polite and not overthrow it."
"But there is never a place in the world that can prove that everyone is equal, and that the world that seeks profits for the sake of demand can exist. Si Shang is not the world. Even if Si Shang can, how can you know that the world can be?"
"As Taoism says, small countries have few people, everything is based on the law of nature. Then it can be achieved in a very small village community, but how can it be achieved in the world?"
"You can do a good job in Si Shang now. How can you be sure that you can do it in the world? But after reading history books, you can know that during the time of civil and military affairs, there was really such a world where everyone obeyed etiquette. The princes were not in chaos, the officials were in charge of the family, and the people did not seek profit. This was what we had done in the past."
